  • MediLytic HDL Cholesterol 20 ml is a biochemistry reagent kit , intended for in-vitro laboratory use.

  • Specifically, it’s used for measuring the concentration of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) in human serum or plasma.

  • The method is generally a “direct homogeneous” or “direct HDL-C” method — this means the assay reagents selectively react with HDL fractions so that non-HDL lipoproteins (like LDL, VLDL, chylomicrons) do not interfere.

  • The reagent kit typically comes in 2 reagents (often called R1 and R2). The first reagent inhibits reaction from non-HDL lipoproteins; the second reagent contains a detergent that solubilizes HDL, allowing the enzymes (cholesterol esterase + cholesterol oxidase) to act on HDL cholesterol, producing a color reaction.

  • The formed colour intensity (after the enzymatic + chromogenic reaction) is measured spectrophotometrically — and is proportional to the HDL cholesterol concentration in the sample.

  • The assay works on serum or plasma (properly collected, usually after fasting) and is compatible with semi-automatic or fully automatic biochemistry analyzers.

  • The “20 ml” refers to the volume of the reagent kit. According to MediLytic’s product listing, this is one of the pack sizes available for HDL-C reagent.

  • Storage conditions (as typical for such reagents) — refrigeration (usually 2–8 °C) is advised to maintain stability and performance.

  • This kit is meant for clinical laboratories / diagnostic labs / pathology labs that run lipid profile tests. It is not something to “take” — it’s used to test blood samples in lab analyzers.

  • The output of the test (HDL-C value) helps doctors assess a person’s lipid profile, cardiovascular risk, and guide treatment/lifestyle decisions. Low HDL-C or abnormal lipid profile may indicate risk of heart disease.
