-
RF Turbilatex is a reagent kit for in-vitro (laboratory) measurement of Rheumatoid Factor (RF) in human serum or plasma.
-
The “50 ml” refers to the total reagent volume (often packaged as two bottles: a diluent + a latex suspension) for use in semi-automatic or automatic biochemical analyzers.
-
The test uses the latex turbidimetric method: latex particles coated with human immunoglobulin (IgG) are mixed with the patient serum/plasma sample.
-
If RF antibodies are present in the sample, they bind to the IgG on latex particles → this causes agglutination (clumping), which increases turbidity (cloudiness).
-
The increase in turbidity (absorbance) is measured by the analyzer, and compared against a calibrator of known RF concentration to quantify RF level.
-
The main purpose is to aid in diagnosing conditions associated with elevated RF — most notably Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA).
-
RF may also be elevated in other autoimmune and rheumatologic disorders (e.g. Systemic Lupus Erythematosus — SLE, Sjogren’s syndrome, etc.) and even in some non-rheumatic conditions.
-
The kit comes with two reagents (R1 = diluent, R2 = latex suspension) and a calibrator.
-
It needs to be stored refrigerated (2-8 °C).
-
Sample: human serum or plasma.
-
For accurate results: avoid hemolyzed, lipemic, or otherwise contaminated samples, and follow the analyzer’s protocol.
